BYRON Lady (Anne Isabella Noel Byron Milbanke) [Durham, 1792 – Londres, 1860], épouse du poète George Gordon Byron sous le nom d’« Annabella » et la mère de la scientifique Ada Lovelace qui collabora avec le mathématicien Charles Babbage.
Lettre autographe signée « A. I. Noel Byron », adressée à M. Thommeul. 5 mars 1828 ; 1 page 1/2 in-4°, adresse avec marque postale et cachet de cire rouge, petite fente au pli, en anglais.
Très rare lettre de l’épouse de Byron. « I have been prevented by indisposition and by the difficulty I found in obtaining the attraction of any Committee for the London ministery from replying to your communication. The obligation which M. Robert Noel consider himself to have received from you, as well as the claimer which untitle you to the distinction you luck, would induce me to do all in my power to promote your news – but the information I have recently had from a member of that Institution, to whom I named your wisher, tended to show that private applications would be wholly disregarded, and might indeed prejudice the cause of the Individual, by gaving rise to the supposition that he had not sufficent reliance on the recommandations which must be publicity examined before the Council. I trust that you will desire from these that success I whish or would have given me pleasure to contribute, and when I go to London, I shall hope to express in person my acknowledgements for your kindness to my relation.
