Ensemble de 2 lettres signées sans doute de sa main. — 3 avril 1809 ; 1 page in-4°, trous et fentes ; en anglais. « I am obliged to tell you that His Excellence the marechal Beresford ordered me to counter mand the mouvements of my division, what forbid me not only of going as I wished, but also I am obliged to retire the Brigade, that followed the first ………, I sent you, and only you can ……… with the escadron, and bataillons, whilst I would not have a contrary order. I will be very glad to meet, and take knowledge with you. » — Head Quarters of Toman 1er april 1809 ; 1 page in-4°, papiers collés sur le bord ; en anglais. « As soon as I received the news from Porto, I intended to march with all my division, what I did not wanting orders of the Marshall Sir Beresford, and sending immediatly one Aidecamp, and after another, and two postillons no such order I received ; mean wile I send to Coimbra after the two bataillons, and the escadron you know, three more battaillons and two escadrons comanded by the brigadier Mosinho to whom I gave order to combinate theis mouvements with you. I know that if the ennemy will arrive in such strench, that will oblige you to retreat, you will cut the bridg, but I believe me obliged to tell you arriving of the Brigadier Victoria, the state and number of his troupes. I assure you of my confidence and estim.»
